REVIVING A HERITAGE BRAND

CASTLECLIFF was launched in New York City over 100 years ago, at the dawn of the era of American made costume jewelry. Today, this heritage brand is still owned, operated and produced in NYC by artist and designer Stephanie Schwallie with a commitment to upholding the brand’s legacy, materials and commitment to craftsmanship.

Schwallie, an industry veteran, began her career at some of fashion’s biggest houses: leading Vera Wang’s private jewelry label, creating pieces for Isaac Mizrahi’s runway shows, and working with Jenna Lyons at J.Crew during their heyday. At J.Crew, Schwallie made a name for herself designing their vintage inspired jewelry, made fresh through modern layering and smart maximalism.

A NEW COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

Today at CASTLECLIFF, Schwallie has revived the storied label, penning a love letter to the fabled aesthetic of its costume jewelry roots. Featuring iconic designs through the lens of ‘70s futurism, every piece is made in-house or by production partners in New York’s historic Jewelry District of 100% recycled brass. Inspired by the collection’s mid century modernity and bold, statement making silhouettes, Pre-Columbian adornments and artifacts of the Pacific Northwest, every piece reimagines recycled and vintage components.

After seeing the wasteful and environmentally harmful materials used to make jewelry through her tenure in the Fashion Industry, Schwallie has made it her mission to focus on sustainability. “Remnants of a wasteful industry have become the building blocks of our modern accessories,” she says. “In a world of throwaway accessories, we hope to restore this NYC institution to its former glory and grow CASTLECLIFF into a sustainable and responsible costume jewelry brand for the 21st century.”
